I'm partway through The Pruitt-Igoe Myth and a minute ago I was entranced. It dawned on me that documentaries about cities have a special pull for me. Apart from this article in The Atlantic there's not much online about this fetish. I'm starting a blog to figure out why I love the ones I love, and what I love about them.

A few theories:

• They feel like traveling.
• You learn geography.
• They show you what your city could be like, for better or worse.

I live in Los Angeles. I've never met a city I didn't like, but I don't ever want to go to Miami because I don't think I'll like it.
